    It’s Wild!

    Environmental Science Intensive

    (Ages 4-17)

Ecology, botany, microbiology, oh my! Your future scientist will be introduced to the ever-changing science of ecology and the roles that ecologists have in our society. Students will delve into major concepts in ecology such as herbivores, carnivores, food chains, food webs, and ecosystems in the effort to build an understanding about the relationships that exist in nature and within our very own habitat, cities. We leverage age-appropriate, fun and relevant curriculum for each group: the award-winning Paige & Paxton STEM system for K to 5th grade students and the AP Environmental Science framework from the College Board for 6th to 12th grade students. By the end of the camp, students will take the initiative to engage in engineering design by prototyping an invention that will solve an environmental problem or a way in which humans can improve a relationship we have in our city environment.

    Engineer the Future:

    Engineering Design Intensive

    (Ages 4-17)

Engineering is everywhere! Every single thing created by humans is the product of engineering. Engineers are creative and ingenious individuals who apply their knowledge of the natural world (science) using materials derived from the natural world (steel, wood, glass, metal, etc.) to create everything from skyscrapers and bridges to solar energy and robotics to bookshelves, dishwashers and even the packages that cover and protect the things we use until we can use them.

In short, engineers are responsible for the modern world in which we live. Engineers build civilizations, yet even many adults don’t understand the vast impact that engineers have on our society. Your engineer in training will get a solid introduction to this broad field by engaging in hands-on engineering projects in fields such as structural engineering, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 robotics, 3D printing, and CAD design.

  • AN AWARD-WINNING STEM EXPERIENCE

Blue Studios has created the ultimate summer STEM experience. Students engage in intellectually robust, hands-on science experiments and engineering projects under the direction of STEM professionals who guide them through scientific methods and the engineering design process. Our approach is award-winning, aligned to Next Generation Science Standards, the U.S. Department of Labor and best practices in STEM education. Projects at Blue Studios have real-world application and relevance from the students’ perspective. Students leave with an understanding of science and engineering and how these fields impact the world in which they live, and most importantly, how they can be part of that world.

Blue Studios enlightens and empowers students to think of themselves as someone who can do anything and go anywhere. We engage and entertain students on a number of levels: making STEM real and relevant to their world now; shifting the paradigm from consumption to creation, and showing even the youngest students that they can engage in science and engineering right here and now. Students model the work and methods of STEM professionals while exploring a wide variety of STEM fields and careers—from botany and microbiology to computer science, coding, structural engineering, packaging engineering and more.

Students experience the joy that comes from planning and building something with their own hands that is uniquely theirs while developing key STEM skills sets: problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and resilience. Students also discover how scientific methods are used to arrive at good answers to the conundrums of science as well as to everyday decision making.

Will my child be sitting down and indoors all day long?

Blue Studios summer camp offers a mix of hands-on indoor and outdoor experiences in which students are always engaged—physically and/or mentally. In addition, we’ve built in time for students to get up and out of their seats, explore the neighborhood, and to relax and interact with their peers.

What type of science and engineering activities will my student engage in?

Blue Studios has created the ultimate summer STEM experience. Students engage in intellectually robust, hands-on science experiments and engineering projects under the direction of STEM professionals who guide them through scientific methods and the engineering design process. What is eSports? Why should my child do it over the summer?

“eSports” is simply the short name for electronic sports. eSports is a new force in collegiate athletics and one of the fastest-growing ventures in the world. Just like football teams compete on the field, eSports teams compete on computers. But it doesn’t take place inside living rooms between friends and family. eSports are team-based games played in leagues and tournaments throughout the world, culminating in one final event. The winners of eSports competitions can and do, go home with thousands of dollars in prize money. People playing computer games is nothing new. Gamers have been doing this for more than 30 years. However, around the year 2000, computers became cheaper and the internet became faster. It also became easier to connect gamers around the world, allowing gaming to become a true spectator sport. Now people who play are skilled professionals attracting millions of fans, which has converted computer gaming into an organized, competitive sport. Blue Studios is offering summer campers the opportunity to test their mettle in this new and emerging technology that is gaining momentum across the world. Who knows where it can lead? Currently, fans come from far and wide to attend big tournaments and watch their favorite “celebrity” players. These leagues offer salaries and player’s rights, just like any other professional sports league. Now high schools are starting to field teams, colleges are starting to offer scholarships and players are turning pro. Even the Olympics is trying to figure out how to get in on the action.

    May I pay in installments?

Yes. A 50% non-refundable deposit reserves your child’s spot. You have two options for paying the balance due: 1) Pay the entire balance by February 28, 2019, and receive discount early bird pricing, or 2) Pay the balance by April 30, 2019, and pay the regular price. With either option, we can break up the installments in a way that works best for you.

Does my child have to be a Blue Studios member now to qualify for the member discount?

Yes. The discount is a Blue Studios member benefit. Members are the lifeblood of Blue Studios, and Blue Studios will continue to offer its regular members-only programming throughout the summer. To qualify for the member discount, your child must be a Blue Studios member no later than April 30, 2019. In addition, the membership must remain active before and during the entire 2019 summer term: from April 30, 2019, through August 31, 2019. If the membership lapses, the balance of the non-member fee is due immediately. If not paid within 24 hours of notification, the member will be terminated from the camp program for the remainder of the camp season and all fees and deposits paid will be forfeited.

As a member, do I have to continue to pay my monthly membership fee during the summer program?

Yes. You’ll want to continue to take advantage of our award-winning programming during the summer. Blue Studios programming will continue during the summer camp sessions. Members are encouraged to continue to take advantage of Blue Studios classes during the week and on Saturdays, just like always.

What if I only need early drop off or late pick up a few times a week? Can I pay for just those dates?

No. These services are “all or nothing.” Early drop-off and late pick-up services are available for a flat rate. No refunds or adjustments to the rate for these add-on services will be issued regardless of the number of times these services are used.

I’m already a member of Blue Studios. How do I utilize my membership during the summer?

In several ways. Your membership gives you a discounted summer camp fee. If you need late pick up just once or twice per week, your membership also gives you the flexibility to expand your child’s day on your schedule by registering your child for selected classes. You can also continue to use your membership to book classes on weekends as well. Remember: We’re always adding new modules to our rotations, giving your child additional STEM experiences and exposure. If your child is not enrolled in summer camp, your membership continues. Just like always, a Blue Studios membership offer your child the very best STEM experiences and enrichment for your child—on your schedule.

    Are meals and snacks included?

No. Blue Studios will not provide meals and snacks for the Summer Camp sessions. Our efforts are necessarily and appropriately focused on ensuring that your child has the most engaging summer experience possible. Juggling food preferences and other restrictions takes away from that goal. Please be sure to pack lunch and an afternoon snack for your child(ren) daily. If you’re taking advantage of early drop-off service and you wish for your children to have breakfast at Blue Studios, please pack breakfast as well. We kindly ask that all lunches and snacks are nut-free.
