    STEM Instructor for Youth Program

    BLUE Studios is the Ultimate Pre K-12 STEM Pathway. We give children ages 3 to 17 the skills to solve any problem and bring their ideas to life. Families select the best STEM programs for their kidsages 3 to 17on their schedule, with everything from coding to aerospace engineering to biology and more on a membership basis.

    These teaching positions are currently part-time in Chicago, IL during after-school (4:30 pm) and weekends.

    Role & Responsibilities
    The main focus of the role will be teaching lessons to youth ages 3 to 17, using our curriculum, providing tips, assessing their needs, helping develop an understanding of the material and increase productivity while motivating the students.

    Classes are taught on Mondays through Saturdays over 2-3 hour sessions, at BLUE Lacuna, a tech innovation center.

    We have turn-key curricula, that are hands-on and very fun, and can provide you with training.

    Example of class subjects include:

    • Life sciences: chemistry, microbiology, botany, paleontology
    • Engineering and physical sciences: structural engineering, civil engineering, packaging engineering, simple machines, aerospace engineering, physics 
    • Arduino/electronics: robotics, coding, wearable-tech, Arduino programming, 3D design/printing
    • Web development 
    • Mobile development


    There are opportunities to teach at various age levels ranging from pre-K, elementary, middle and high school students.

     

    There is also the ability to commit to a subject, such as an intro to coding classes, microbiology classes, etc.

    Throughout the position, you'll be asked to work closely with the leadership team. This is a high-collaboration environment where creative thinkers and hard workers can shine. Most importantly, you'll be embarking on a mission to change the way students learn.

    Qualifications for teaching positions

    • General tech savvy and STEM fundamentals gained through experience or school, math or related discipline or equivalent industry experience
    • The ability to transmit that passion to others (young people)
    • Flexible schedule, but the ability to commit to a regular schedule (example: Wednesdays, 5 - 7 pm)
    • Capacity to understand students and make them feel understood
    • Are comfortable with collaboration with diverse groups, and fast decision-making
    • Must agree to and pass a criminal background check 
    • Experience working with youth a plus

    • You have a low ego and a roll-up-your-sleeves approach to work. You possess humility and grit, willing to take on both "lower level" and "higher level" projects based on what needs to be done. The phrase "that's not my job" is not something you would say.
